Hello future Eagles, and welcome to our virtual Winthrop Day. I'm Jamie Cooper, Vice Provost for Student Success and Dean of University College here at Winthrop.
University College will be an important part of your Winthrop experience, as we are home to many programs and services designed to help you be successful and make the most of your time at Winthrop. University College includes the Office of First Year Experience, as well as the Academic Success Center, which provides tutoring support services to students across a wide variety of subjects and disciplines. The International Center is also part of University College, and that office can help you think about how to integrate an international experience into your studies, regardless of major. The Honors Program, undergraduate research, Leadership Studies and the Office of Nationally Competitive Awards are all programs that can help you find and engage in academically challenging opportunities to deepen your learning and develop skills for lifelong success. TRiO Student Support Services and the McNair Scholars Program are two grant funded programs we have to help certain populations of students, including students who are the first in their family to go to college, who are living with disability, or who are coming from lower income backgrounds to be successful at college and beyond. And finally, University College provides advising services to students who have not yet chosen their major, including students who are transferring from two and four year institutions, or who have not attended high school or college in several years.
Winthrop University and University College are full of faculty, staff and students who want to help you find community, feel a sense of belonging, challenge yourself academically and celebrate your achievements. Winthrop is a small, connected community, where faculty and staff know students. You will not just be a number to us or just another face in the crowd. We will get to know you, and you will get to know us. Again, we are very excited to have you with us today, and I really hope you enjoy the rest of your virtual experience. And most of all, I look forward to welcoming you to our community in the fall. Thank you.
