Take a Virtual Tour of our campus

Hi everyone, I hope everyone is doing well. My name is Ani Subotic, and I'm a Senior Admissions Counselor here at Winthrop. I still see a lot of people are logging on, so we're going to begin in about a minute or so on. The way this webinar is going to work is after I've finished speaking, I'm going to show you about a 10 to 11 minute video, so it's not too long, and it actually is a really, really good step by step guide to completing the steps towards enrollment. So if you had questions on how to register for orientation, if you didn't know how to pay your deposit, or set up housing, or fill out your South Carolina residency form for those of you who are South Carolina students, all of this will be explained in this video that's going to be shown shortly.

Registering for orientation. So guys, orientation is mandatory for all incoming students. It's actually the session where you come in, and you register for your classes. During orientation, you will meet with an academic advisor that will guide you through your degree checklist and will advise you on what classes you need to take your first semester at Winthrop. So let's make sure you get registered as soon as possible.

To register for orientation, you will need to log into your status portal, also known as the account you created when you applied. Go to apply.winthrop.edu/apply and log into your account. Once you log in, your portal will look like this. As you can see, you're automatically taken to the Home tab. If you scroll down towards the bottom of the page, under the Enrollment Checklist portion, you will see an option that reads Orientation Registration. Once you click on that, the section will expand, and you will have to click on Orientation Registration System. You will then be required to log in with your student ID number. As a reminder, your student ID number is listed on your acceptance letter and on the Profile tab of your portal. It is the number that starts with a capital W. Once you have logged in, you will be directed to the different sessions offered for orientation, so make sure you register for the session that works best for your schedule.

All right, great job you guys. You just got registered for orientation. As a quick reminder to any freshman student who has taken AP or IB courses, please make sure to send those official scores to us, as you may be eligible to receive college credit at Winthrop. This means that you don't have to take a specific class again. The same applies to high school Dual Enrollment students. Make sure you get your college to send us your official transcript, so you'll receive credit for these classes. For all the transfer students out there, also make sure to submit your most recent college transcript before the start of your orientation date. If at this time you're currently not able to get your transcript, please contact us at admissions@winthrop.edu, and we will work with you to get the required information. For more information on orientation, please make sure to visit www.winthrop.edu/orientation, or please email the office at orientation@winthrop.edu.

Setting up your Winthrop username and password. All right you guys, let's talk about setting up your Winthrop username and password. This account is actually very, very important, as it's the account that you use to view your financial aid award, as well as register for your classes. It's different than the account that you created when you applied. However, you will set up your Winthrop username and password through that account you created when you applied. So let's get started.

On the homepage of your status portal, scroll down towards the bottom of the page. Under the Enrollment Checklist portion, you will see an option that reads Wingspan Account Setup. Once you click on that, the section will expand, and you will need to click on the link that says Account Creation Page. You will then be redirected to a new web page, where you will need to enter in your last name and the last five digits of your CWID, which is your student ID number. Once you have entered in the appropriate information, you must click Validate Student Credentials, and you will be able to proceed with setting up your Winthrop username and creating a password for yourself. All right, you just set up your Winthrop username and password. Now the next thing you need to do is write the login information down. It is very important you remember this login information, as this is the login that will grant you access to your Wingspan account as well as your Winthrop email. As a reminder, the Wingspan account is where you will view your financial aid award, pay for your deposit, register for your housing, register for your classes, and it's also where you will pay your bill once it's made available. So you definitely need to make sure to remember the login for that.

Accepting your financial aid award. Let's talk about accepting your financial aid award. So your financial aid award is actually posted on that very important account called Wingspan. So right now I'm going to show you how to log in and view and accept your awards. Let's get started.

On the homepage of our website, move your mouse over to the top right corner over the link that reads Quick Links. A drop down bar will appear and you will click on the link that says Wingspan. Once you click on this link, you will be redirected to another page, and you will log in with your Winthrop username and password. After you've logged in, your homepage will look like this. You will now move your mouse over to the tab that reads Financial Aid.

Once you click that, your screen will look like this. You will select the third option that reads Award. You will have to select the Award for Aid Year option. In the dropdown, you will select the award year that applies for the upcoming year. After you select the award year, go ahead and click Submit on the bottom. Once you've done that, you will see all the tabs you have access to. To view your award and the estimated cost of attendance, select the second tab that reads Award Overview. Please note that the estimated cost of attendance includes both direct and indirect costs. You will only be billed for direct costs, which include your tuition and fees, room, and meal plan. After you've reviewed your award, click on the third tab that reads Terms and Conditions. You will need to read and accept the terms and conditions in order to accept your award offer. After you have accepted the terms and conditions, click on the fourth tab that reads Accept Award Offer. In this tab you will be given the option to accept your awards in full amounts, partial amounts, or decline awards.

Alright, good job guys. You guys are doing so well. I just wanted to let you know, if you did have any questions about your financial aid offers, please make sure to reach out to us at the Office of Admissions at admissions@winthrop.edu or contact the Financial Aid Office at finaid@winthrop.edu.

Registering for housing. All right, let's talk about the housing application. So by now, you should have already received your housing packet in the mail. If you have not, don't worry. It's probably going to get there very, very shortly. The package that you received in the mail is actually the instructions you'll need to complete your housing application online, so I'm about to show you how to do that.

You will fill out your housing application through your Wingspan account. Go to www.winthrop.edu and in the top right corner of the web page, hover your mouse over the option that reads Quick Links. A drop down bar will appear, and you will need to click on the second option that reads Wingspan. Once you click on that, you will be redirected to another web page, where you will need to log in with your Winthrop username and password. After you log in, you will automatically land on the Home tab of your Wingspan account, and your housing application is located on this tab. Move your mouse over to the left side of the screen, and under the headline that reads Student Tools, you will need to click on the third option that reads Eagle Nest Housing. Once you click on that, you will be redirected to the housing application, so you can now complete it. Make sure you follow the instructions you received in the mail. If you have any questions about housing, make sure you contact the Residence Life department at reslife@winthrop.edu.

You have now filled out your housing application, so congratulations. As a reminder to students who live 50 miles within Winthrop's campus, you actually do not have to stay on campus. You have the option to, but it's not mandatory. If you're a student who lives 50 miles within the school radius, and are choosing to commute, you'll actually have to fill out the two year living on campus exemption form. I'm about to show you where you can locate it. To locate this form, you will need to go to www.winthrop.edu/reslife. Once on this page, move your mouse over to the left side of the screen and click on the link that reads Housing Forms and Information. Once you are redirected, you will need to click on the fifth link from the top that reads Two Year Live On Requirement Exemption Request Form. You will need to print out this form, fill it out, and return it to the Department of Residence Life. If you have any questions about housing, make sure you contact the Residence Life department at reslife@winthrop.edu.

Paying your deposit. The $300 enrollment deposit is actually a part of tuition we ask for up front, and you actually pay that through your Wingspan account. So let me show you where you go pay that.

Once you log into your Wingspan account, move your mouse to the left side of the screen, and under the Wingspan links heading, click on the link that reads Account Summary and Payment Gateway. You will then be redirected to this page, and you will need to click on View Statements and Make a Payment. You will then be redirected to another page, that looks like this, and will need to click on Make a Payment. Once you click on that, you will land on this page. You will have to select the option that reads Current Account Balance and manually enter in 300. As a heads up, if you have already registered for orientation, you will see a fee for orientation. Just make sure to enter in 300, and then select Continue on the bottom of the page to continue your payment options. You will be paying for the spring term, but do not worry. Our Cashiers Office will forward this payment to the fall term on your behalf.

Congratulations! You have now secured your spot for the incoming fall semester.

Completing immunization form. Immunizations are actually a very important part of college community health. All students are required to fill immunization documents and submit them before the first day of classes. Any student that does not will actually be charged a nonrefundable $50 noncompliance fee to their student account. You can start uploading your immunization documents as early as May 18th, and I'm about to show you how you can do that. You will need to create a patient portal to upload your immunization documents. Go to www.winthrop.edu/HCS. Once on this page, move your mouse over to the left side of the screen and select the option that reads Resources. A drop down list will appear, and you will select the link that says Immunization Requirements. On this page, click on the link that says Patient Portal in the second paragraph. Create your account, and you will then be able to complete and upload the required forms. Our Health and Counseling Services will not accept paper applications.

Completing the South Carolina residency form. If you are a current South Carolina resident, you will actually have to complete the South Carolina residency form. Completion of this form is required in order to confirm your ability to pay in state tuition, so it's very, very important you complete it. You will complete this form on your status portal, and I'll show you where you can locate it. On your status portal, there is a portion with a heading that reads Forms. Below this heading, you will see a link that says SC Residency Form. Once you click it, you will be redirected to the form, and you can start completing it. It is strongly recommended that you complete this form with your parent or guardian. So once you complete the residency form, residency officers will review it and confirm your residency. If they will need additional information, they'll definitely reach out to you and tell you what additional items you need to supply us with.

Requests for accessibility accommodations. Winthrop is committed to providing students with disabilities equal opportunity to participate fully in their educational experience by facilitating accommodations, discourse, and engagement. We can make a classroom experience or residence hall accommodation for students with a documented disability. Please visit our website for the Office of Accessibility for additional information on eligibility for services. You will be able to see the eligibility requirements by moving your mouse over to the left side of the screen and clicking on accessibility. Once you click that, a drop down menu will appear and you will click on the second link that reads Eligibility for Services. You will then be directed to another page where you can read all the requirements.

Future Eagles, you have now completed all the necessary steps to completing enrollment to Winthrop, so welcome to Winthrop University. We cannot wait for your arrival on campus.
