Hello, future Winthrop Eagles. Welcome to Winthrop Day, and it is my pleasure to introduce myself and the Office of the First Year Experience. My name is Leah Kendall, and I serve as the Director of FYE. And inside our office, we offer kind of a three tiered approach. We have an academic course that all first year students are required to take, and this class is aimed at supporting you in your first year transition to college. So it offers all kinds of academic resources, academic support services, introduces you to the language of the university, and how to be successful with your interim grades, and all kinds of things throughout that first semester. You are also given a peer mentor through FYE. And your peer mentor is an upperclassman, who comes alongside you in that first semester and is your go to person for all those questions that you need answered. Everything from, "How do i do my laundry?" to, "Where is the Academic Success Center located?" That peer mentor is there to support you and answer all of those questions.
You have a faculty who teaches your freshman seminar course and is there to answer everything about academic questions, academic advising, interim grades, and they just want to support you and see you be successful. We also offer lots of events. You can look forward to a cornhole tournament and fall festival and fun things with your peers.
So welcome to virtual Winthrop day. We are excited to have you and Go Eagles.
